YOGA!

my friend and I tried on some despirate moves just to loose weight. Yesterday we attended an aeroclass. We had a great time dancing latin, hiphop, striptease and bellydancing. It was like a refresher course for us since we were able to perform some of this dances when we were still in college. We sweat our butt out dancing to flo rida’s low and pussycat doll’s button… after the session, still we were not contented and decided to attend the yoga-pilates class. Whew! yoga and pilates is not easy! it will really test the flexibility of your body. I felt like my bones and muscles are being stretched to their limits. I can say that i was really exhausted during the class to the point that i almost doze off during the cooling down stage. hahaha! piggy me!! But i can say that it was really worth a try… even if my whole body is aching now, i would still wanna try doing yoga seriously. Any tips for me? I would gladly appreciate it.

just a follow-up about my patient that i shared to you guys in my last blog.. Finally, she was discharge from our unit! after a close to renal dialysis procedure 2 days after her open heart surgery. She was able to step down to the ward with no chest tubes and other contraptions in her body. Indeed God is so good!! If we all put our faith in Him, nothing could go wrong.

Realizations

I went on duty last night. It was a toxic one. According to the endorsements, our patient, hours prior to her emergency surgery, was still talking with her friends in the ward. In a matter of 2 hours, her status drastically change from conscious state to semi coma state. She was not in good condition, she was ashened gray and has a breathing tube that sustained her prior to her stat OR procedure. Miraculously, after 6 hours of operating on her, with numerous blood transfusion and  medical intervention, she started to gain a blood pressure and her skin color slowly turns into pink and is showing evidence of adequate urine output. Whew! Thank God… But this doesn’t mean she’s out of danger anymore for we know that the first 24 hours of a post open heart patients are the most critical period in the recovery phase. We received her in the recovery room 3 hours past midnight. She was still intubated and sedated. Astoundingly, 30 mins after we received her, her blood pressure started to go up, and she started to move her extremities. This was a good sign that after all she has been through, she manifested no neurologic abnormalities. Praise God!

With what had happened. I realized that with just a snap of a finger we could loose our lives. So let’s make the most out of it… Give love, share love and live a life that is full of love for we will never know when our time will end. It is never too late. Let’s start now.

Wedding Planning

Four months to go before our big I dos yet we are still in the process of canvassing for the wedding details. Our reception venue is our biggest problem… We don’t want it to be in a ballroom, not to mention that it is very expensive since they are going to cater the food, which a food lover like me woulnt recommend if we’re talking about satiety. So now we are looking for clubhouse or garden venue that is accessible for our guests. Second in worry list is the food catering, we knew one caterer but they told me they can’t confirm yet so we are again looking for other prospects. hehehe… Third will the number of guest, since our wedding date is a holiday and near holyday, it will be difficult to fix the number of persons who will be attending our wedding. Last in our worry list will be the budget for airline tickets for my hubby’s family since they will be flewing in from zamboanga. All these major worries plus the minute details stresses me out! My friends were right, I’ll will get slimmer as the days drew near, unintentionally though. emoticon

Good night Sleep

As a nurse, i dont have a choice but to go on  night duties. Rewarding as it is to care for the patient, it is also equally exhausting.. Nothing really compares to a good night sleep. Here are some facts about sleep that i came across with.

1. You can "cheat" on the amount of sleep you get.

Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health and safety. When we don’t get adequate sleep, we accumulate a sleep debt that can be difficult to "pay back" if it becomes too big. The resulting sleep deprivation has been linked to health problems such as obesity and high blood pressure, negative mood and behavior, decreased productivity, and safety issues in the home, on the job, and on the road..  http://www.sleepfoundation.org

True! isn’t! hmmm… maybe that explains why im gaining weight!

 2. Health problems such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and depression are related to the amount and quality of a person’s sleep.

Studies have found a relationship between the quantity and quality of one’s sleep and many health problems. For example, insufficient sleep affects growth hormone secretion that is linked to obesity; as the amount of hormone secretion decreases, the chance for weight gain increases. Blood pressure usually falls during the sleep cycle, however, interrupted sleep can adversely affect this normal decline, leading to hypertension and cardiovascular problems. Research has also shown that insufficient sleep impairs the body’s ability to use insulin, which can lead to the onset of diabetes. More and more scientific studies are showing correlations between poor and insufficient sleep and disease. http://www.sleepfoundation.org

Oh my! Better take good care of our health nurses! We don’t want to be patients….

3. Experts say one of the most alluring sleep distractions is the 24-hour accessibility of the internet. http://listverse.com/

100% correct! We all agree! Even if our bodies are drop dead tired, the irresistable lure of the internet caused us to stay late at night or wake up early in the morning. Funny how sites such as friendster, facebook, myspace and multiply and activities such as blogging energizes a weary mind and body… u think so too?

Dance! Dance! Dance!

i think i will never grew tired of dancing. I love to watch movies about ballet, jazz or hiphop, latin etc.. When i was young i convinced my parents to enroll me in ballet. i joined ballet for a year and quit because of some academic reason. But that did not stop me from dancing. Luckily, i met friends who also enjoyed dancing as much as i do. So we have dance sessions once from time to time, dancing to the fad hiphop tunes during that time. During highschool days, may dancing feet was put rest, i was then focusing on my academics and trying to explore other things. Having no single sporty muscle and bone, i was given no choice but to join the dance troupe. My zest for dancing heaped on. Our group got to dance in some of the biggest events in and out of the campus. Now that im working, i taught i would not be able to do my first love anymore but recently, the hospital was looking for dancers to do a broadway exerpt and i was invited! with no hesistations. Though i’m not good in acting, i got my share of good reasons why i accepted it. First, it will be a sort of an exercise for me. Second, i will be forced to watch what i eat and lastly, i will get to do what i love the most and that is… dancing

Losing Weight!

As i was about to sit down on my computer chair, the button on my pants popped! Oh my goodness! this could only mean one thing! I’m getting bigger and heavier! Oh no!!! I sort of had a panic attack.. I will be attending my cousin’s wedding in 5 days!… With this, i looked over the net for some weight reduction tips..and here’s what i found out….

> Intake of foods low in calorie like fruits and vegetables is highly recommended!

> Spices and bitter gourd or ampalaya for us filipinos,  may also help one loose weight.

> and here’s one thing that really interest me… CABBAGE! according to the website, it inhibits the conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates to fats!!! Whew! what a relief! Cabbage is one of the vegetables that I loved to eat! But, I came across in some of my readings in the past that CAbbage is also goitrogenic. So those who have problems with their thyroid must aovid eating this vegetable.

> Exercise! Of course! we need to burn the calories we got from the food that we ate! My suggestion, choose an exercise that would best suit you and not because a friend of yours says so. Exercising should be fun and enjoyable… no pressures…

Love and Marriage

A patient of mine once asked "How sure are you that he is the One?"…Blammm!!!!…. I was caught off-guard…couldn’t say anything… A smile was all I can manage to give as a response to the question.

My partner and I are planning to get married before the year ends. It’s probably the day everybody in our circle of friends was waiting for. For them, we’ve been together for almost 6 years now and it’s time to finally seal it with God’s blessing.

Personally, I can’t really draw the line why I really wanted to marry him. During the first few years of our relationship, all I know is that I’m happy and I felt secured with his love. I just love the feeling that I’m loving him. But, as we journeyed farther, I all the more loved the feeling but this time I am now willing to fight for our love, stand by it, nurture it…

The Loving feeling for me was just the initial attraction that drew us together but the willingness to stay in love is what sustains us all through this years.

When I was in my 2nd year in college, I learned of the differences of love in marriage vs. commitment in marriage. I was then questioning myself; will I ever commit myself to someone? especially in marriage? What if I’ll fall out of love after we get married?…. Nah! I’ll just cross the bridge when I get there…

Now, I’m standing in front of that bridge… What if…. Then I start to look back to all those good memories and not so nice things that happened in our relationship, and I can say that it’s worth the risk. I’m getting into this next stage of my life with the loving feeling plus the COMMITMENT to sustain the relationship. Marriage doesn’t simply fall apart when one loses the feeling of love but it breaks when one loses the commitment to stand by their vow.

“ Love is not a feeling, but a commitment”
