Love and Marriage

A patient of mine once asked "How sure are you that he is the One?"…Blammm!!!!…. I was caught off-guard…couldn’t say anything… A smile was all I can manage to give as a response to the question.

My partner and I are planning to get married before the year ends. It’s probably the day everybody in our circle of friends was waiting for. For them, we’ve been together for almost 6 years now and it’s time to finally seal it with God’s blessing.

Personally, I can’t really draw the line why I really wanted to marry him. During the first few years of our relationship, all I know is that I’m happy and I felt secured with his love. I just love the feeling that I’m loving him. But, as we journeyed farther, I all the more loved the feeling but this time I am now willing to fight for our love, stand by it, nurture it…

The Loving feeling for me was just the initial attraction that drew us together but the willingness to stay in love is what sustains us all through this years.

When I was in my 2nd year in college, I learned of the differences of love in marriage vs. commitment in marriage. I was then questioning myself; will I ever commit myself to someone? especially in marriage? What if I’ll fall out of love after we get married?…. Nah! I’ll just cross the bridge when I get there…

Now, I’m standing in front of that bridge… What if…. Then I start to look back to all those good memories and not so nice things that happened in our relationship, and I can say that it’s worth the risk. I’m getting into this next stage of my life with the loving feeling plus the COMMITMENT to sustain the relationship. Marriage doesn’t simply fall apart when one loses the feeling of love but it breaks when one loses the commitment to stand by their vow.
